The Workforce Won’t Wait: How Technology Is Redefining the Role of Higher Education

About this session
Technology is changing the workforce faster than traditional educational models were designed to respond. From artificial intelligence and automation to robotics and rapidly evolving digital skills, colleges and universities are being challenged to rethink not only what they teach, but how quickly they can build new programs, develop faculty expertise, partner with employers, and create pathways that meet learners wherever they are.
Dr. Kelly Trahan, Dean of the Center for Workforce Development, Online Learning, and Technology at Lehigh Carbon Community College, will share lessons from LCCC’s evolving approach to workforce and continuing education. Drawing on initiatives spanning advanced manufacturing and robotics, AI-enabled teaching and professional development, digital literacy, online learning, and employer-driven credential programs, she will explore how institutions can build a more responsive bridge between education and the changing world of work.
This session will challenge leaders across higher education to think beyond individual technologies and consider a larger institutional question: How do we build colleges capable of adapting at the same speed as the communities and industries we serve?
Attendees will leave with a framework for thinking about technology not simply as a tool for efficiency, but as a catalyst for new programs, stronger partnerships, greater access, and a fundamentally different approach to lifelong learning and workforce development.
